
VRA, Energy Ministry Launch Major Renewable Energy Expansion at Lala, Sene East District
The Acting Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Mr. Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo, joined the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, to officially launch the Scaling-Up Renewable Energy Program (SREP) in Lala, Bono East Region.
As part of the initiative, the sod was cut for the construction of 35 mini grids and 1,450 solar home systems across the Bono East, Oti, and Savannah regions. This project, to be handed over to the VRA upon completion, is designed to improve access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy in underserved and off-grid communities.
Mr. Obeng-Kenzo emphasized the critical role of reliable electricity in enhancing education, healthcare, and economic development. He reaffirmed VRA’s commitment to ensuring the systems are not only functional but maintained to the highest standards for long-term community benefit.
Hon. Jinapor noted the recent commissioning of three mini grids in Ada East District on April 16, 2025. He also announced the completion of feasibility and geospatial studies covering 400 additional communities to expand electrification efforts. He urged traditional leaders and local residents to support the implementation for maximum impact.
