Director, Human Resources Wins Gold for VRA

Director, Human Resources, Mr. Eric Mensah Bonsu has proven that he is a colossus of the Table Tennis sports in the energy sector.

Mr. Mensah Bonsu was crowned the overall winner in that discipline at the maiden inter-utility Energy Games which was held at the Akuse Club House and Prisons Park last Friday, when sports and fitness enthusiasts defied a heavy downpour to exhibit their skill, talent, love, and passion for sports.

He made the Authority proud by winning a gold medal and trophy after winning all his matches and beating his opponent from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) who was no match for him at all in the final match.

Director, HR came into the competition with tonnes of experience having played in many competitive games such as the CEOs Table Tennis Award organized by Safety Communication Consult, Celebrities Special Table Tennis Award, and winner of the recent VRA Chief’s Cup among others.

In other proud moments during the Energy Games, the Chief Executive, Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa demonstrated his mantra of ‘can-do-spirit’ and resilience when he expertly scored from the penalty spot having missed his first attempt to score in the CEOs Penalty Shootout. Also, Peter Animartey emerged as the second winner in the Men’s Table Tennis Tournament, whereas the VRA’s Tug of Peace Team were runners up whilst Pamela Fafa Akpaloo placed fourth in the Women’s Table Tennis Competition.

The event which was aimed at promoting cooperation in Ghana’s Energy Sector had institutions such as Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Volta River Authority (VRA), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) among others competing in soccer, table tennis, CEO Penalty Shootout, and other fun activities.

Addressing the gathering, the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh said the Games was to foster networking, promote cooperation and ensure fitness among the utility players as well as to release workplace pressure and stress. He noted that the event is expected to be organized at the Legon Sports Stadium in May next year.
