Press Release: Nationwide Blackout as a Result of Total Power System Collapse

The Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) wish to inform their valued customers and the general public that the power outage experienced nationwide on Thursday 18th July, 2013, was in consequence of a total power system collapse.  The situation occurred at 6.40pm and the system was restored from 7.15pm of the same evening.

Engineers and operators from both VRA and GRIDCo are still carrying out investigations to ascertain the cause of the blackout. Information gathered after the investigations will be communicated accordingly. 

Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.
