VRA, The Ontario of Africa
"VRA today has the capacity to become the Ontario of Africa"; this vision of Mrs. Sophia Abena Tijani, the only female Electrical Engineer at the Hydro-generation department seems to be in line with Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's vision for Ghana and Africa as well as the new direction of VRA, setting the standards for public sector excellence in Africa.
According to Mrs. Tijani, upon entering the plant as an employee, one gets caught up in the passion and excitement which drives the staff to do what they do. "The spirit and passion of Dr. Nkrumah in building the dam still lingers on and is seen especially in the staff of hydro-generation", to quote her words. The passion she said is due to the fact that Akosombo is a legacy from Dr. Nkrumah and being part of it as well as leaving it in good conditions for generations yet unborn, generates a good feeling.
Mrs. Tijani believes that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's vision has been achieved but also thinks that VRA can do more by selling their expertise gained overtime to other African countries as in helping them operate their Power Plants.
