In furtherance of its social responsibility the Authority has established a Community Relations Unit (CRU) to bring the VRA closer to the communities in its operational areas. The main aim of this Unit is to promote dialogue between VRA and the communities. A few of the social activities carried out by the Unit are:

  • Organising educational forums on environmental awareness.
  • Holding consultations with chiefs and representatives of communities on matters of mutual concern.
  • Promoting high educational standards through donation of stationery to school children.
  • Organising trips to the Authority's facilities for students and other groups.

In addition to the above initiatives aimed at promoting the welfare of the communities, the Authority is currently using research findings of studies in the Volta Basin conducted by the University of Ghana, on behalf of VRA, to improve the socio-economic well-being of the communities around the Basin. This reinforces the importance the Authority attaches to its non-power activities and social responsibilities in all its operational areas. For more information click here .
